The First Flowers: Flowers of the White House

Posted by on November 6, 2012

In the spirit of election day, we took a look at the flowers in the White House.

Laura Dowling is the Cheif Floral Designer at the White House.  She is a specialist in the garden-style approach, creating natural arrangements that are classic and modern at the same time.

She uses flowers from the woods, meadows, vineyards, and gardens to bring a new signature style to the White House since she started working in the White House in 2009 with the Obama’s.

Laura likes to use fruits and vegetables in centerpieces around the White House, which coincides with Michelle Obama’s emphasis on healthy eating.

She has been known to incorporate arrangements in custom containers that give a more relaxed and unexpected look.
