The Guest Book

A detail that often gets overlooked when planning for a wedding is the guest book. However, a guest book makes for a nice keepsake after the wedding! After an afternoon searching through Pinterest, I’ve put together my favorite finds..Take a look!

Hopes, prayers and well-wishes for the couple written on tags and hung on a tree.

Have your guests mark their thumbprints and sign. This balloon design is awesome!

A recipe book full of love from your guests.

Autumn on my Mind

Pumpkin Spice lattés, pumpkin cheesecake, and a slight chilly breeze (even in Florida!), that can only mean one thing, Fall is here!  Today, September 22nd, is the first day of Autumn.  That means the bloom of some beautiful fall flowers and amazing fall weddings and flower arrangements!

Unique containers for centerpieces really burst out in the fall!  Where glass vases are a classic and a perfect spring and summer choice, beautiful fall centerpieces can come in gold-leaf vases or copper pots.  Anything to really accentuate your fall tones and add to the uniqueness of a fall wedding.

The cooler weather and shorter days really make the chrysanthemums or “mums” and goldenrods thrive, among many other spectacular fall flowers.  Fall is also a time for all you gardeners out there to step back outside in the cooler air and spend a lot more time tending your gardens on the weekends.

Going with fall flowers for your autumn wedding can bring rich colors and interesting textures to your bouquet and centerpieces.

Happy Fall and Happy Fall wedding planning!

Carpet of Begonias

One of my favorite floral masterpieces has just come and gone
in Brussels. Every other year on the Grand Place in Brussels a new floral
carpet is unveiled. These extraordinary designs are made of almost entirely begonias.
The planning stages start up to a year in advance, scale models are created and
color maps are employed and in the end a hundred or more skillful and experienced gardeners assemble the final carpet in less than four hours. 600,000 Begonias were used in this years carpet a tribute to African art. More than 100,000 people were expected to view the floral masterpiece over the weekend.

Scents you wanted to know..

Scent is such a popular element of cut flowers that the first thing most of us do when buying a bouquet is smell the flowers. Floral scents are one of the most popular smells, and the perfume industry expends a great deal of effort trying to reproduce the authentic fragrance of fresh flowers. There have also been discoveries that certain fragrances can have an effect on our emotions and wellbeing. The scent of orange blossom or lavender can act as sedative, while citrus smells are great pick-me-ups.

Aromatic: lavender

Heavy/exotic: gardenia

Citrus: eucharis

Spicy/peppery: chrysanthemum

Sweet/floral: rose

Keep in mind a cool room is better for prolonging the life of cut flowers; but too cool of a room may prevent scented flowers from giving off their full perfume.
